YOU (dj Tim a's MMBL Wet Dream Mix)

APOLOGIES, especially to any trance fans I insulted with my ignorance. I have to make my first retraction in 4 years of blogging.

The artist is Shciller featuring 'Colbie Caillat', not Tarja Turunen as I previously posted.

Not usually what I work with, the original version of this song is a Trance ballad. However, this was a request from Louie at Music Box Mix, (http://musicboxmix.blogspot.com/), a guy with a smile and Puerto Rican scruff that I just can't say no to!

Hope it is at least a worthy effort.

IN OTHER NEWS, I am accumulating tracks for my Spring Mix 2009. I am open to requests if anyone wants to leave a comment or send me a message.

cold hearted WOMANIZER (dj Tim a's dirty 80's mash-up)

PAULA ABDUL vs. BRITNEY SPEARS
There's not much in common with these two in terms of personal history...Paula Abdul built her name as a cheerleader, dancer and choreographer, and Britney made her name on the Disney Channel when she still wore panties. But both released some of the chewiest bubble gum pop music of their respective times. Now Britney has proven to have more staying power than Paula, and in short order appears to be spreading her career and musical relevance into a second decade.

However, these two songs, "Cold Hearted" and "Womanizer", have a common theme. Bringing them together was fun...hope you enjoy. One thing I noticed while editing this music, their vocals are very similar.

only in MY dreams (dj Tim a Club Mix)

For listeners of my podcast, this is a bit vintage. But for the sake of new listeners I will occassionally post the oldies.

Debbie Gibson is classic 80's, and this is just another mix (basically from when I first started the 80's series of mixes), where I take the original and give it a kick in the *ss.

My Life Would Suck Without U (dj Tim a Faithfull Temp Mix)

Kelly Clarkson is setting up to hit the air-waves again. Her latest, "My Life Would Suck Without You", has me listening. Certainly listening more than her last album 'My December' and its flat debut 'Never Again'.

You can read my review of the single on my blog at MySpace, http://myspace.com/dj_tim_a.

No mixes are out yet, and I decided not to wait. I threw this together, basically so I would be able to spin it this weekend.

luv, peace and music always...

HAZARD, the river (dj Tim a Extended Soulmate Mix)

Richard Marx is famous for his solo career, being the first male solo artist to have his seven first singles make the Billboard Top 5, including three number ones (Hold On To The Nights, Satisfied and Right Here Waiting). But he has also worked successfully with many other artists, including but not limited to NSYNC, Keith Urban, Barbra Streisand, Josh Groban, Vince Gill, Leann Rimes, 98°, Luther Vandross, Kenny Rogers, Sarah Brightman, Lara Fabian, Sister Hazel, The Tubes and SHeDAISY. Most recently, he has written and produced records for Emerson Drive, Natalie Cole, Paulina Rubio, Kenny Loggins, Chris Botti, Michael Bolton, Chely Wright, Meredith Edwards, Hugh Jackman and Sissel.

This song caused a stir in the early 90's, shining a quasi-negative spotlight, on an actual Nebraska community, over what by all accounts is an entirely fictitious, but seemingly realistic story.

Laid back, but up tempo.

Luv, peace and music always...

IN YOUR ROOM (dj Tim a Cascada Mix)

Their are very few 80's 'girl' hair bands. The Bangles certainly are one of those. This is one of my favorite tracks by The Bangles, from the same album you may recall the ultra-classic ballad "Eternal Flame".

Originally I only remixed this track because it is one of my favorites. Suprisingly, it always seems to get a positive crowd response when I play it. Although this was only a Top 10 hit, it seems a lot more listners recognize it than I expect when I spin it. This one kicks it in the pants at about 142 RPM, and I mix it in when I am amping up my sets. For those of you who like to spin the 80's, don't be afraid to add this to your set and stir up the bass!!!

CROWD PLEASERS - Bon Jovi

One vital part of any good Dj's set, is having crowd pleasers. Our purpose is to entertain and though as an artist you need a measure of autonomy in determining your sets and different clubs have different genres driving a basic playlist, every good Dj has his or her crowd pleasers.

I want songs people can dance to and sing along with. I also like the nostalgia that 80's tracks tend to add to the mix. Over the past couple years, no songs have had that unique effect on my crowd more than remixes of two of Bon Jovi's biggest hits from the 80's. The songs themselves are timeless. I added rhythm and effects, Bon Jovi does the rest:

Livin' On A Prayer (dj Tim a Club Mix):

U Give Luv A Bad Name (dj Tim a Club Mix):
http://medianation.podOmatic.com/entry/2008-04-26T18_05_11-07_00

One interesting thing about these tracks, is it has not mattered where or for what reason I played them. The crowd loves them, period. That includes the bar I spin at, parties, weddings, etc... If you can spin 80's where you work, these tracks should suprise and delight your audience.

MyPod Part Mix - 2008 Honorable Mentions

These tracks didn't quite make the first "Best Of" cut. Mostly, they just didn't fit.

I will post a 2008 Round Up on MySpace tomorrow. In the meantime, check out this video clip of the partying going down at Bobby Love's in Chicago on Wednesday:
