(I Can't Live Without Your) LOVE and AFFECTION

For lover's of 'glam-pop', the Nelson twins first album 'After The Rain' held so much promise. But everything they have released since is tired, folksy acoustic nothingness. But this one good album is full of chewy pop-rock goodness, including the title track, and this song which I've given a signature update.

Waiting For A Star To Fall

My love of music started and remains rooted in the 80's. While I follow and spin popular and contemporary dance music, I remain loyal to those roots. I know there are others out there! Thanks to all the listeners who have been following my post for years now - to be sure, there are more to come.
Much luv, much respect and music always...

CAN'T GET 'Bad Romance' OUTTA MY HEAD

I was browsing the net for new music and promos, and I saw the Acapella for "Bad Romance" floating around and decided to do something about it!!!

I GOTTA 'Ray Of Light' FEELING!

Several friends have asked, how on earth did I think of this. Well, I originally had the idea of mashing "I Gotta Feeling" with "Luck Star", when I was vacationing recently in Mexico. The radio in the cab I was in played the two songs back to back and I actually was singing "Lucky Star" while the Black Eyed Peas were on. However, when I sat down at my lap-top, I could not locate a good Acapella of "Luck Star", but while browsing Madonna Acapellas, I found "Ray of Light" and started singing that with B.E.P.'s, and one thing led right to another.

They seem like a natural fit together.

Enjoy...Much luv, much peace and music always...dj Tim a

I CAN'T HOLD BACK! (dj Tim a's Club Mix)

A little bit of 80's pre-glam rock candy, with a dance floor kick! This has been posted on my 'PODOMATIC' website for sometime. I have been lax in updating my Blogspot site - sorry to any listeners who access my mixes here.

You can always subscribe through that site too, at http://medianation.podomatic.com. What I have been told by most of my listeners though, is that it is easiest through I-Tunes. Just type "Vocal Dance Experience" in the search bar.

I WON'T BACK DOWN! (dj Tim a's Dirty 80's Mix)

This song was actually a personal favorite of mine, from Tom Petty. But I have been shocked by the crowd response when I play it. It suprises me to see how many people sing along. It was by know means a chart topper in its day, but it seems I am not the only person at a gay bar who appreciates vintage Tom Petty.

dj Tim A's Fall Mix 2009

Seasonally speaking of course, it is not fall. But don't tell us Chicago types...I was riding my bike home last night after spinning and the temp was 45 degrees!! YUCK...so with this mix, I am taking my cue from the weather and aiming for heavily progressive. That is, ahead of the charts, sharp and thumping.

Luv peace and music!

dj Tim a's MyPod Vol.7

SERIOUSLY...where are the summer hooks?

Really, what?...maybe only 2 or 3 songs in the pop top 10 are actually worthy of being top 10 hits, if that! Luv Gaga, Luv Black Eyed Peas, Luv Kingston - but they are all getting old quick. I do have to admit I am liking the Cobra Starship too.
But dance radio now, especially the ladies, are really hooking us up this summer. Veterans and newbies alike are keeping it fresh week to week. I am spending way too much money on I-Tunes and it seems like everytime I sit down at my laptop, I am listening to new tracks and promos.
Here are some of the latest for you!

DJ TIM A's SUMMER MIX 2009

JUST IN TIME TO HELP YOU GET YOUR GROOVE BACK! Asking for some summer weather - heck even spring weather - around Chicago has seemed like asking for gay marriage in Iran! But finally, it is here, and I am helping kick it off with some of my favorite tracks this season.

Apologies for my extended absence! Up next will be my Pride 2009 Mix, so stay tuned!

I DO NOT HOOK UP!! (dj Tim a's Club Mix)

Arguably the best track on Kelly Clarkson's new album, "All I Wanted". All in all, her new album is an 'A-' effort in my book...excellent. Full of hitworthy tracks.

I have not been able to get this one out of my head for weeks, not to mention it took forever to do this edit, so I hope it works!

HIGH QUALITY RE-POSTS

For individual tracks I post, I will now be posting in full "HQ", that is, high quality.

Here are the first several tracks now available HQ:

My Life Would Suck Without U - Kelly Clarkson

Dj Tim A Club Mix

This track is now much crisper, particularly the vocals. The guitar does not over power the chorus.

Separate Ways - Journey

Dj Tim A Club Mix

Keen ears probably noticed that the bass line was a bit 'pitchy' in the original. That has been fixxed. The HQ version also allows the vocals and individual instruments to stand out better.

When U Close Your Eyes - Night Ranger

Dj Tim A Club Mix

This track in HQ just sounds cleaner and sharper.

If you want my seasonal mixes (such as the Spring '09 mix) in HQ, you are going to have to contact me via e-mail to make other arrangements. Tracks that long take up too much time and space to post so I would have to mail a CD to you. Just e-mail me at deejaytima@gmail.com.

Thanks for listening.

Here Comes The Rain Again (dj Tim a's Impressive Music Mix)

With about a dozen hits, including a handful of classics like this one, the Eurythmics made their mark as one of the definitive 80's artists. I can not think of that decade without them. Not only did they carve a piece of success, can you imagine the 80's without "Sweet Dreams" or "Missionary Man"?

No!

Enjoy!

Separate Ways (dj Tim a's Club Mix)

More classic 80's rock. This time a remix of the JOURNEY track "Separate Ways".

If you have not heard this song before, I would still have a hard time beleiving you have not heard one of there other anthems - "Faithfully", "Don't Stop Beleivin'", "Open Arms", "Any Way You Want It", or even a number of other tracks the played on pop and rock radio back in the day.

Relegated to 80's, Classic Rock, and Adult Contemporary radio these days, there is the outside chance you might be familiar with a couple of these tunes, which have been covered by a number of dance artists. "Faithfully" by Judy Torres is a great example - that was a dance floor anthem several summers ago.

Anyway, I remixed this one for a pair of listeners in Canada. I really hope it works.

When You Close Your Eyes (dj Tim a Spacewalk Mix)

Ok, so I am all about the 80's, so I am getting back to my roots here, with some classic 80's rock. This is by the 80's glam band Night Ranger, mostly known for their classic prom-anthem "Sister Christian".

Not to be a nasty little d#ck, but hey, if you ever want to be nasty to an ex, send this one to 'em!

YOU (dj Tim a's MMBL Wet Dream Mix)

APOLOGIES, especially to any trance fans I insulted with my ignorance. I have to make my first retraction in 4 years of blogging.

The artist is Shciller featuring 'Colbie Caillat', not Tarja Turunen as I previously posted.

Not usually what I work with, the original version of this song is a Trance ballad. However, this was a request from Louie at Music Box Mix, (http://musicboxmix.blogspot.com/), a guy with a smile and Puerto Rican scruff that I just can't say no to!

Hope it is at least a worthy effort.

IN OTHER NEWS, I am accumulating tracks for my Spring Mix 2009. I am open to requests if anyone wants to leave a comment or send me a message.

cold hearted WOMANIZER (dj Tim a's dirty 80's mash-up)

PAULA ABDUL vs. BRITNEY SPEARS
There's not much in common with these two in terms of personal history...Paula Abdul built her name as a cheerleader, dancer and choreographer, and Britney made her name on the Disney Channel when she still wore panties. But both released some of the chewiest bubble gum pop music of their respective times. Now Britney has proven to have more staying power than Paula, and in short order appears to be spreading her career and musical relevance into a second decade.

However, these two songs, "Cold Hearted" and "Womanizer", have a common theme. Bringing them together was fun...hope you enjoy. One thing I noticed while editing this music, their vocals are very similar.

only in MY dreams (dj Tim a Club Mix)

For listeners of my podcast, this is a bit vintage. But for the sake of new listeners I will occassionally post the oldies.

Debbie Gibson is classic 80's, and this is just another mix (basically from when I first started the 80's series of mixes), where I take the original and give it a kick in the *ss.

My Life Would Suck Without U (dj Tim a Faithfull Temp Mix)

Kelly Clarkson is setting up to hit the air-waves again. Her latest, "My Life Would Suck Without You", has me listening. Certainly listening more than her last album 'My December' and its flat debut 'Never Again'.

You can read my review of the single on my blog at MySpace, http://myspace.com/dj_tim_a.

No mixes are out yet, and I decided not to wait. I threw this together, basically so I would be able to spin it this weekend.

HAZARD, the river (dj Tim a Extended Soulmate Mix)

Richard Marx is famous for his solo career, being the first male solo artist to have his seven first singles make the Billboard Top 5, including three number ones (Hold On To The Nights, Satisfied and Right Here Waiting). But he has also worked successfully with many other artists, including but not limited to NSYNC, Keith Urban, Barbra Streisand, Josh Groban, Vince Gill, Leann Rimes, 98°, Luther Vandross, Kenny Rogers, Sarah Brightman, Lara Fabian, Sister Hazel, The Tubes and SHeDAISY. Most recently, he has written and produced records for Emerson Drive, Natalie Cole, Paulina Rubio, Kenny Loggins, Chris Botti, Michael Bolton, Chely Wright, Meredith Edwards, Hugh Jackman and Sissel.

This song caused a stir in the early 90's, shining a quasi-negative spotlight, on an actual Nebraska community, over what by all accounts is an entirely fictitious, but seemingly realistic story.

Laid back, but up tempo.

Luv, peace and music always...

IN YOUR ROOM (dj Tim a Cascada Mix)

Their are very few 80's 'girl' hair bands. The Bangles certainly are one of those. This is one of my favorite tracks by The Bangles, from the same album you may recall the ultra-classic ballad "Eternal Flame".

Originally I only remixed this track because it is one of my favorites. Suprisingly, it always seems to get a positive crowd response when I play it. Although this was only a Top 10 hit, it seems a lot more listners recognize it than I expect when I spin it. This one kicks it in the pants at about 142 RPM, and I mix it in when I am amping up my sets. For those of you who like to spin the 80's, don't be afraid to add this to your set and stir up the bass!!!

CROWD PLEASERS - Bon Jovi

One vital part of any good Dj's set, is having crowd pleasers. Our purpose is to entertain and though as an artist you need a measure of autonomy in determining your sets and different clubs have different genres driving a basic playlist, every good Dj has his or her crowd pleasers.

I want songs people can dance to and sing along with. I also like the nostalgia that 80's tracks tend to add to the mix. Over the past couple years, no songs have had that unique effect on my crowd more than remixes of two of Bon Jovi's biggest hits from the 80's. The songs themselves are timeless. I added rhythm and effects, Bon Jovi does the rest:

Livin' On A Prayer (dj Tim a Club Mix):
http://medianation.podOmatic.com/entry/2007-05-05T14_43_04-07_00

U Give Luv A Bad Name (dj Tim a Club Mix):
http://medianation.podOmatic.com/entry/2008-04-26T18_05_11-07_00

One interesting thing about these tracks, is it has not mattered where or for what reason I played them. The crowd loves them, period. That includes the bar I spin at, parties, weddings, etc... If you can spin 80's where you work, these tracks should suprise and delight your audience.
